Max Verstappen has ended his extremely successful Formula 1 season in style. In Abu Dhabi he took his nineteenth victory of the year.
Behind Verstappen, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and George Russell (Mercedes) completed the podium. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez crossed the finish line in second place at the Yas Marina Circuit, but a time penalty dropped him to fourth place.
Thanks to Russell’s third place, his teammate Lewis Hamilton’s ninth finish and a winless result by Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, Mercedes takes second place in the constructors’ championship.
Vettel passed
Verstappen now has a total of 54 victories in Formula 1. This means he has surpassed Sebastian Vettel in the all-time rankings and is number three behind record-holder Hamilton (103 victories) and Michael Schumacher (91 victories).
With his nineteenth victory, Verstappen also further improved his record for the most victories in one season.
