North Korean leader Kim Jong Un today visited soldiers training to operate newly developed battle tanks and called for greater efforts in preparation for war, the local state media reported today.

The tank training, it is estimated, is a response to the US and South Korean military exercises that lasted 11 days and are ending today.

Pyongyang sees the exercises as a rehearsal for an invasion.

North Korea’s defense ministry has previously vowed to carry out “responsible military activities” in response to the South Korean-US drill.

Kim called the new tank used in today’s training “the most powerful in the world”, reports KCNA. The report further states that Kim got into one of the new tanks and drove it himself.

During the training, the heavy tanks were tested in various simulated difficult combat conditions and engaged targets.

Kim later supervised artillery firing exercises.
