AMSTERDAM – The suspicious package found on track 1 of Amsterdam Central Station on Sunday evening did not contain explosives. This is evident from research by the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD), the police report.

The police did arrest a suspect on a train in Zandvoort, shortly after the report. It concerns a 37-year-old man from Schiedam. His role is being investigated and he is currently in custody.

As a precaution, tracks 1 to 5 were closed for hours due to the suspicious package. But otherwise the discovery had no impact on train traffic, because the trains arrived at other platforms, the NS reported. The tracks were reopened around 10 p.m. and train traffic resumed.
