Millions of Windows 10 users are unable to boot their laptops on Friday morning. All they see is a blue screen. Companies from all over the world are reporting problems, including banks, airlines and media companies. Schiphol is also experiencing problems.
People who try to log in to their computer are getting an error message saying that the computer has a problem and needs to restart. Then the computer keeps crashing.
The problems are caused by a faulty update at cybersecurity company Crowdstrike. According to the company, the problem lies with the so-called Falcon sensor that collects security data on business computers. The software protects users from cyber attacks and therefore has a lot of access to the computer systems.
Crowdstrike has confirmed the issues and says they have rolled back the update. This does not solve the issues. For now, only technical workarounds are offered to solve the issues.
The blue screen is also causing major problems abroad. It is reported that planes from various American airlines are grounded and that incoming flights cannot land. Reports are coming from Australia that self-checkouts in supermarkets are not working.
