West Ham United has fired coach Graham Potter following a poor start to the season, having lost four of their first five league games and currently sitting second to last in the Premier League with only three points. Only Wolverhampton Wanderers have fewer points.
“We believe a change is needed to improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible,” West Ham United announced. “The results and performances in the second half of last season and at the beginning of this season did not meet expectations.”
The 50-year-old Potter had been in charge since January and was under contract until mid-2027. During his tenure, he managed 25 league games, winning only six. Potter stated at a press conference on Friday that he had positive discussions with club management. “That was all positive, but we all know where we are and what we want to improve. If the results are not good, there will always be speculation and negativism.”
In addition to Potter, some members of the technical staff have also been dismissed. The club has not announced a successor. West Ham United is scheduled to play at home against Everton on Monday night.
