A few hours prior to qualifying for the British Grand Prix, Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the final session of free practice. At Silverstone, the world champion was four-tenths faster than his teammate and World Cup runner-up, Sergio Pérez.
Verstappen begins Sunday’s (4 p.m.) race with a 46-point advantage over Pérez and a 49-point advantage over Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. The Monegask posted the third-fastest time, slightly behind Pérez and ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton (both Mercedes).
The rain wrecks the first training session.
Due to weather, the teams’ first training session on Friday afternoon offered little useful insights. In the three laps that he completed, Verstappen, like nine other drivers, did not record a time on the scoreboard.
During the second (dry) practice session, Carlos Sainz of Ferrari was the fastest driver. Verstappen finished fourth behind Hamilton and Russell’s Mercedes.
Saturday’s qualifying starts at 4:00 p.m.
