MotoGP champion Márquez misses next two races due to shoulder fracture

Marc Márquez will miss the next two MotoGP races after fracturing his right shoulder in a crash on the first lap of the Indonesian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was examined in hospital after the crash and later returned to the track with a sling around his arm. “Fortunately the injury is not serious, but it is important to respect the recovery time,” Márquez said in a statement from Ducati’s factory team. “My goal is to be back before the end of the season, but without rushing and listening carefully to the doctors.”

This is not the first time Márquez has struggled with an injury to his right shoulder; in the past the seven-time world champion has been sidelined for months as a result.

Márquez has dominated this season, securing his seventh world title last week in Japan. With four races to go, he leads by 183 points over his younger brother Álex Márquez.
