Thunderstorm threat has risen for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, the 18th round of the season, with George Russell set to start from pole and Max Verstappen alongside him on the front row at the Marina Bay Circuit under the night lights.
The weekend has been largely dry, though there have been occasional spots of rain that did not coincide with on-track running. Teams will be watching the radar closely as the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms around the circuit increases.
Weather outlook
Showers and thunderstorms are common in the Singapore area but their precise location is difficult to predict, organisers said. They added the thunderstorm threat for the race is higher than it was during previous sessions this weekend, creating extra operational stress for teams and drivers.
Despite the potential for rain, the FIA has declared a heat hazard. Temperatures are not expected to fall below 30°C during the grand prix. Under FIA guidance, drivers may wear a cooling vest; if a driver opts not to use a cooling vest, the team must add 0.5kg of ballast to the car.
