Kylian Mbappé is involved in an investigation into a rape in Stockholm, according to Swedish media Expressen and Aftonbladet . The French star footballer of Real Madrid himself speaks of “fake news”.
Mbappé was in the Swedish capital Stockholm with some friends last week. Aftonbladet reported Monday afternoon that the group is being investigated for the rape of a woman. The newspaper did not report that the police specifically consider Mbappé as the main suspect.
The alleged victim is said to have sought medical help. Swedish police would not confirm that it was a rape, but only spoke of “a crime”. A spokesperson did not want to say anything to the AFP news agency about the identity of the suspect.
French media picked up on the news, after which Mbappé made himself heard on X . “Fake news,” the attacker wrote on Monday afternoon. “It’s becoming so predictable, coincidentally just before the hearing.” Mbappé was referring to the case between him and Paris Saint-Germain. The star player is demanding 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses from his former club.
On Monday evening, Expressen reported that the investigation into rape and sexual assault is specifically aimed at Mbappé. Police consider the Frenchman “reasonably suspicious.” That is the lowest level of suspicion in Sweden.
Mbappé camp threatens legal action
Mbappé’s management has threatened legal action in a press release. “These accusations are completely false and irresponsible. In order to put an end to the demonization of Mbappé, all legal steps will be taken to restore the truth.”
“Any person or medium involved in the moral intimidation and defamatory treatment to which Mbappé is repeatedly subjected will be prosecuted,” the statement said.
The 25-year-old Mbappé has been absent from the French national team in recent days. The 2018 world champion struggled with physical problems just before the international break, which caused him to miss the Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium.
France coach Didier Deschamps said Monday after the 1-2 win over Belgium that the news about Mbappé is “not good” for the French team. “Everyone is free to write what they want, but there is a negative atmosphere around the team,” he said.
