FC Volendam beat PEC Zwolle 2-1 at the Kras Stadion to record their first win of the Eredivisie season. Henk Veerman opened the scoring in the 27th minute by extending a left-flank cross from Joel Ideho; PEC levelled just before halftime through Kaj de Rooij, who finished from close range after a knock-back by Koen Kostons. The decisive goal came after an hour when Brandley Kuwas, the left-footed Curaçaoan who returned to Volendam in 2024, tapped in following preparatory play by Robin van Cruijsen and Henk Veerman.
The biggest chances arrived in the first half: Volendam midfielder Nordin Bukala headed wide from a promising position, and soon after De Rooij sent an effort over from close range. Chances were scarcer after the break; in injury time Ozan Kökçü struck a free kick off the bar for the home side.
Rick Kruys’ FC Volendam had drawn four times earlier this season — against sc Heerenveen, AZ, Telstar and Ajax — and had lost their last two matches to Go Ahead Eagles and Excelsior. PEC Zwolle, coached by Henry van der Vegt, won their opening two fixtures but have taken only one point since and drew 2-2 with AZ on Wednesday.
Both clubs now sit on seven points in the Eredivisie, with Volendam ahead on goal difference.
