During the thrilling British Grand Prix of 2022, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured his first Formula One victory by holding off the chasing pack.
In a race that was red flagged on the first lap due to a massive accident involving Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu entering the first corner, the Spaniard maintained his composure to fend off attacks from teammate Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to earn his first race victory.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez miraculously fought his way back to second place after an early pit stop, while home favorite Lewis Hamilton won the race with the fastest lap.
Max Verstappen struggled with his car after suffering a puncture early on, resulting in a P7 finish, whereas Leclerc was unable to hold on towards the end of the race on his older set of hard tyres and fell to P4 after leading the race on lap 43.
Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris, Mick Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Kevin Magnussen completed the top 10 at Silverstone, while six drivers did not complete the race.
