Ajax reported a net loss of 37.3 million euros for the 2024/2025 fiscal year, covering the period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, citing a sharply lower transfer result compared with the previous season.
“This result is largely due to a lower transfer result compared to the 2023/2024 season,” Ajax wrote on its website. “The result from transfers of players amounts to 10.3 million euros. After amortization of compensation fees, the transfer result is 31.0 million euros negative. In 2023/2024 it was 31.3 million positive, so a deterioration of 62.3 million.”
Transfers, costs and sporting context
Ajax’s 2024/2025 transfer activity included the departures of Steven Bergwijn to Ittihad Club, Gerónimo Rulli to Olympique Marseille, Silvano Vos to AC Milan and Jakov Medic to Norwich City.
The club acknowledged that in recent years it “has not done good business in the transfer market.” During the period when Sven Mislintat was technical director at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Ajax attracted many players for large sums and high salaries, many of whom have since left. The club said it has cut back considerably and is “now keeping a different salary house than a few years ago.”
Ajax finished second in the domestic league last season, qualifying for the league phase of the Champions League. “The participation in the Champions League, the transfer results realized from July 1, 2025 – including the transfers of Jorrel Hato to Chelsea FC and Brian Brobbey to Sunderland AFC – and the cost savings implemented have ensured that we have taken important steps toward financial sustainability. These developments are expected to lead to improved results,” Ajax reported.
Net sales increased by 26.1 million euros to 178.1 million euros, mainly driven by higher European premiums, increased ticket sales and more commercial revenues. The operating loss was 19.4 million euros, up from 39.3 million a year earlier. Ajax still has equity of 189.1 million euros.
