One hundred injured in train collision in Slovakia, two in critical condition

The accident occurred near the village of Jablonov nad Turnou in the Kosice region. No fatalities are currently reported, writes local medium UNN.

The trains collided shortly after 10 a.m. on a track segment where tracks converge. According to initial investigations, the cause of the accident appears to be human error. “One of the drivers probably missed a signal and did not give right of way,” said Sutaj Estok.

Footage from local media shows one of the trains hanging over a precipice. Emergency services, including the fire department, police and medical teams, are on the scene en masse.

Rescue services deployed two rescue helicopters and six ambulances. Later in the day, three helicopters were also sent to the accident site to transport seriously injured victims to hospitals.

The railroad stated that the priority is to rescue and evacuate passengers and employees. Nearby hospitals are prepared for the arrival of victims.
