More than 80 percent of Gaza residents have been displaced, according to the UN

1.9 million Gazans have been forced to leave their homes due to the war between Israel and Hamas. “This concerns more than 80 percent of the inhabitants of Gaza,” reports the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. The reception locations are overcrowded.

“The humanitarian situation is worsening by the hour,” Tom White of UNRWA in Gaza said on X on Monday. “People are begging us for advice on where it is safe. There is nothing we can answer.” This is also what the sound of air raids sounds like in Rafah, where many people flee.

According to White, a new wave of refugees has started. “The roads leading south towards Rafah are clogged with cars and donkey carts full of people and their larger belongings.”

After the ceasefire, Israeli attacks are also targeting southern Gaza. That is why the population in large parts of the southern city of Khan Younis is being called on to leave.

But the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have nowhere to go, says International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric. Spoljaric is in Gaza to visit several local branches of the Red Cross and the European hospital in Khan Younis.

According to Spoljaric, the situation for the people in Gaza is unbearable. For example, the military siege means that aid cannot be properly provided.
