Israeli soldiers have killed a 16-year-old Palestinian boy in clashes during a Jewish pilgrimage to the occupied northwest coast, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said. Gait Jamin, who was shot in the head, was killed.
The conflict broke out not far from the place where, according to Jewish belief, is the grave of Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Patriarch Jacob, while Palestinians claim that a local Muslim official is buried there.
The Israeli army, which provided security for the pilgrims, said “hundreds of Palestinians took part in the uprising that erupted when Jewish pilgrims entered Joseph’s tomb and threw stones and Molotov cocktails.”
“Soldiers responded and opened fire on a suspect who threw an incendiary bomb,” the military said in a statement.
