Dutch F-35 jets were active over Poland on Sunday after Russian missile and drone attacks struck western Ukraine, the Polish Armed Forces said on X.
The operation, which the military said included putting ground-based air defense and radar systems into highest readiness, “has been completed,” the Polish Armed Forces wrote on X.
Air alerts sounded across Ukraine in the early hours of Sunday as Russian missiles and drones targeted multiple regions.
At least two people were killed and two injured in attacks on the western city of Lviv, local governor Maksym Kozytskyi said on Telegram.
Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said Lviv, about 70 kilometers from the Polish border, “was hit hard.” He said Lviv’s air defense systems were heavily tasked with fending off first a drone and then a missile attack. Around 7:30 a.m., parts of the city were without power and public transportation was not running. Sadovyi warned on Telegram that it was “dangerous to go out on the streets.”
In Zaporizhzhia, an attack on Saturday night left one dead and nine wounded, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said on Telegram. He said the attack damaged apartment blocks and houses and left more than 73,000 people in the southeastern region without power.
Russia has not yet responded to Saturday night’s attacks. Russian authorities reported that they destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
