At least forty people were killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon last Friday and Saturday, Reuters news agency reported after reports from the Lebanese authorities.
At least seven people were killed in the coastal city of Tyre on Friday night, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said. Two children were among the fatalities.
The Israeli military had previously ordered large parts of the coastal city to be evacuated, Reuters reported , but no evacuation order had been shared ahead of Friday’s attacks.
Thirteen people were killed in nearby towns of Tyre on Saturday, the ministry said, while another 20 people were killed in Israeli attacks around the historic city of Baalbek, authorities said.
The Israeli army said in response that it had targeted “Hezbollah infrastructure” in the areas around Tyre and Baalbek, including militants and weapons storage facilities, the army said.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 3,100 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 8, 2023, the day after Hamas attacked Israel. Another 14,000 people are said to have been injured.
