Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crashes Near Aktau, Kazakhstan

A tragic aviation incident unfolded Wednesday morning as an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, with early reports suggesting significant casualties.

According to a statement from Kazakhstan’s Emergency Ministry, the Embraer 190 aircraft, carrying 67 people, encountered an emergency mid-flight. Preliminary figures indicate that 42 individuals are presumed dead, while 25 passengers survived. Of those, 22 have been hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries.

Details of the Incident

Flight 8432 was en route from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Grozny in Russia when the incident occurred. Preliminary reports suggest that the plane attempted an emergency landing approximately three kilometers from Aktau after colliding with a flock of birds, which caused critical damage. The crash resulted in a fire upon impact, complicating rescue efforts.

Emergency Response

Kazakhstan’s emergency services swiftly mobilized to the crash site, deploying over 50 first responders and 11 units of specialized equipment. Authorities have confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members at the time of the accident.

Investigation Underway

Officials are working to determine the exact cause of the crash, with initial indications pointing to bird strikes as a contributing factor. Azerbaijan Airlines and Kazakh authorities have pledged full cooperation in the investigation.
