Two women died while attempting to cross the English Channel early Saturday morning. The incident occurred south of the beaches near Neufchâtel-Hardelot, on the west coast of France, after a boat left the area around 3:15 a.m. Approximately one hour later, the boat returned to the beach due to engine problems.
Emergency services responded to a report of a child suffering from hypothermia and discovered the two women in cardiac arrest. Despite attempts at CPR, they could not be revived. The child and both parents, who were also experiencing hypothermia, were transported to a hospital in Boulogne. An official from nearby Montreuil-sur-Mer stated that around 60 people are being cared for.
