The Hmeimim base near the Syrian city of Latakia was attacked from the air by Israel early this morning, Syrian sources, the Israel Times and Russia’s Interfax reported.
The base serves the Russian Air Force under an agreement between the Russian and Syrian governments. The reason for the attack was probably the landing of an Iranian cargo plane of the Qeshm Fars airline at the base.
As of 03:55 local time, rockets fired from Israeli warships hit a warehouse in Hmeimim and a number of nearby buildings. The runways and towers of the air base operated by the Russian Air Force were not damaged. A fire broke out. Later in the day, a Russian air patrol flew over Latakia.
There is no information about injured or dead.
