Tensions between Israel and Iran are slowly but surely increasing

Iran asserts it has the “right and duty” to defend itself against “aggressive acts” from external forces, according to a statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry following Israeli airstrikes last night. Iran reports that two soldiers were killed in the attacks west of Tehran.

However, the ministry also emphasized Iran’s commitment to its “responsibilities regarding regional peace and security.” Tensions between Iran and Israel continue to rise, though gradually.

A senior U.S. official affirmed that the U.S. is “fully prepared to defend Israel” should Iran retaliate. Any such response would bring consequences, the official warned, adding, “if Iran makes that unfortunate decision.” The U.S. stance, however, is that the situation should not escalate further.

While details about Iran’s potential response remain limited, the Iranian news agency Tasnim, closely linked to the Revolutionary Guards, quoted sources using familiar rhetoric, asserting that Iran stands ready to respond to “Israeli aggression.” The sources added, “There is no doubt that Israel can expect a proportionate response.”

Military Targets
Speculation over Israeli retaliation has been building for weeks, following an attack on October 1 in which nearly 200 rockets were launched by Iran, striking three Israeli air bases. This latest Israeli airstrike reportedly targeted Iranian military sites, including facilities for rocket and drone production.

The full extent of the damage remains unclear, with Israel claiming success in the operation, while Iran describes the impact as limited. Social media images suggest that a drone manufacturing facility in Shamsabad, south of Tehran, was among the locations hit.
