Search Efforts in Angelique Hendrix Disappearance Case Conclude Without Results

Belgian police have concluded a search in a nature reserve in Maasmechelen as part of the investigation into the 1990 death of Dutch national Angelique Hendrix. Despite thorough efforts, no items or traces connected to Hendrix were discovered, police reported.

Angelique Hendrix, an 18-year-old from Limburg, disappeared in 1990. Recently, authorities confirmed that a skull found in the area shortly after her disappearance belonged to her. Following a request from Dutch authorities, Belgian police conducted the recent search of the area over the past few days.

Despite the lack of new findings, the investigation into Angelique Hendrix’s disappearance remains active, according to the police. “This allows us to rule out certain possibilities,” the head of the investigation told L1 Nieuws.

Following the recent identification of the skull as Hendrix’s, authorities received fourteen tips, all of which are now under review. Police believe that some of these tips may provide further insight into the case. A reward of 30,000 euros has been announced for information that leads to a breakthrough.

Without a trace

On July 13, 1990, Angelique Hendrix went cycling with her brother on the back. She stopped on the way and sent him back home, after which she disappeared without a trace. Almost a year later, a skull was found in Maasmechelen, just across the Belgian border near Stein. At that time, DNA research was not yet very developed and the link with Hendrix was not made.

It was only more than twenty years later that the DNA profile of the skull yielded a match and a breakthrough in the case occurred. After additional research in the Netherlands and Belgium, it was announced two weeks ago that it is 100 percent certain that it is the skull of Hendrix.
