Romania is building a military base to train Ukrainian marines

Romania will create a new naval base to train Ukrainian soldiers, DPA reports.

“Recent developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine have shown the need to strengthen and diversify the training of the Ukrainian military,” Iohannis said in a letter to lawmakers.

The training of Ukrainian sailors is expected to last two years.

Parliament also approved an additional contribution to the new NATO mission – Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine – NSATU).

The new unit, which was approved this summer, serves to supply and train Ukrainian forces.

As part of the Romanian efforts, it is planned that the Ukrainian soldiers will undergo training at the Campia Turzii air base in the northern part of the country, the agency said.
