The three men who died last night after their vehicle ended up in the water are in their twenties. They are residents of Amersfoort aged 21, 25 and 27, the police reported.
The vehicle ended up in the water at the Stadsring in Amersfoort around 1:30 am. Officers found tire tracks and parts of the car along the water.
A fire brigade diving team pulled the victims out of the water. Emergency services tried to resuscitate them, but to no avail.
Not much is yet clear about the circumstances of the accident. The police are calling on witnesses and people with camera footage of the Stadsring to come forward.
A police spokesperson told news agency ANP on Monday morning that it cannot be said with certainty whether it was a single-vehicle accident.
