Some 180 Napoli fans detained in Eindhoven ahead of CL match with PSV

At another location in the city, about four PSV fans were detained. Their behavior also “gave rise to disturbances,” according to police.

In the end, no disturbances or fights took place. That was prevented by the arrests, a police spokesman told news agency ANP.

The arrested Napoli fans were on Fuutlaan. The police spokesman spoke of a “large group” with “a certain atmosphere”. Officers spoke to the fans about their behavior and asked the group to leave the city center. This was not heeded.

The supporters were eventually arrested for violating municipal rules around gathering. They were taken by bus to the police station on Mathildelaan. There they were questioned. Some of them did not have a ticket for Tuesday night’s Champions League match between PSV and Napoli.

Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Eindhoven previously established a security risk area because of the match. This allows the police to conduct preventive searches in the city center, among other places.
