A case of bird flu has been detected at a poultry farm in the Dutch province of Drenthe, the first such infection since March, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said.
The affected farm keeps broiler parents — chickens that lay eggs from which broilers are produced.
Within a 10-kilometer radius of the farm a movement ban immediately applies to 31 other commercial poultry farms, the NVWA said.
There is also a requirement to house and screen poultry and other bird species in the area. The authority said these measures should prevent spread to other parts of the country.
At the moment, the NVWA said, “there is no immediate reason for it” to introduce a nationwide cage and fencing requirement in the Netherlands.
Experts from the authority will meet soon to reassess the risk of further spread of bird flu, the NVWA said.
