The investigation suspects that the two suspects, aged 20 and 23, posed as police officers to make contact with the woman.
One of them allegedly called the woman, stating that his “colleague” would come to check the locks in her home in the Nieuw-West district. He informed her that this was necessary due to the risk of burglaries.
The second fake officer arrived at the woman’s door shortly thereafter. Once inside the house, the woman realized something was amiss. At that moment, the suspect used violence against her, resulting in her death from her injuries.
Initially, a 19-year-old woman from Zaandam was also arrested, but she is no longer considered a suspect.
The police shared information about the case during a community meeting. “While it is rare for a situation involving fake officers to escalate in such a manner, we felt a strong need to inform the neighborhood about the case and, importantly, to explain how to recognize such impostors,” stated the police.
The police visited the woman’s home in August after she failed to attend an appointment. She was found deceased at that time. The police suspected foul play and subsequently launched an investigation.
