Dutch teen arrested for participation in right-wing extremist organization The Base

THE HAGUE – A 16-year-old boy was arrested in August on suspicion of participation in the right-wing extremist terrorist organization The Base, the National Public Prosecution Service reported on Thursday. He is also suspected of incitement to terrorism, as are two other men aged 19 and 26. The three were arrested on August 20 in the municipality of Bergeijk, in Hengelo and in Veenendaal.

The Public Prosecution Service believes that they incited others to commit terrorist crimes in chat groups.

The Base has recently been designated as a terrorist organization in Europe. The website of the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) states that The Base aims to “initiate a violent revolution” in order to establish countries or areas where only white people are allowed to live. “They want to overthrow the existing political system and see violence as a necessary means to spread their racist and anti-Semitic ideology and to realize their goals.”

The suspects are currently in custody. The case against the 16-year-old will be handled under juvenile criminal law.
