Three vehicles were involved in the collision. The victim was a 21-year-old man from Heerhugowaard. A 27-year-old man from Heerhugowaard was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 53-year-old man from Friesland was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.
Monday morning at approximately 7:10 a.m., a head-on collision occurred on the N242 near Alkmaar. A passenger vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man was traveling in the direction of Heerhugowaard when, for unknown reasons, it veered across the median and into the opposite lane. There, the automobile collided with an oncoming automobile. The drivers of both cars were unable to escape their vehicles. The arrival of emergency services was prompt, and two lifeboats were requested. The victims were extricated from their vehicle and given first aid. One of them was unsuccessfully resuscitated. The man died instantly from his wounds.
