The Amsterdam Zoo Artis has become the target of a ransomware attack. Consequently, certain zoo’s IT systems are down. The perpetrators, according to Artis, demand one million euros.
According to NH News, the zoo has filed a report and is being advised by a cybercrime expert. It remains unclear who is responsible for the attack. Artis wrote in a statement, “Immediate measures have been taken to prevent further access to our systems in order to stop the digital attack.”
Artis does not yet know if the hackers accessed personal information or email traffic. The zoo has notified the Dutch Data Protection Authority as a precaution.
Today, despite the digital attack, the zoo was accessible to the public. The Micropia and Groote Museum departments were closed, but will reopen tomorrow according to their regular schedule.
