15 illegal workers found at bread factory in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM – During an inspection of a bread factory in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region, the Labour Inspectorate came across fifteen employees who are not allowed to work in the Netherlands. These are people from Turkey, Syria and Ukraine. The factory had previously violated the rules.

“For some of these employees, the employer could have applied for a work permit from the UWV, which he did not do,” according to the inspectorate. Certain working conditions at the company were also not in order.

The inspectorate had previously also found illegal employees at the company’s branches. “The employer is now in violation again and that has an impact on the fine that the employer will receive,” it said. A spokesperson cannot yet say how high that fine will be. “The investigation is still ongoing, so the fine has not yet been determined.”
