KLM Returns Two Boeing 777 Aircraft to Schiphol Due to Technical Problems

SCHIPHOL – On Sunday evening, two KLM flights were forced to return to Schiphol Airport shortly after departure due to technical issues. Both aircraft, Boeing 777s, landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were unharmed. The airline has not yet confirmed when or how the affected passengers will reach their destinations.

Flight to Bali Returns Midway

The first incident involved KLM flight 835, which departed Schiphol at 21:54 en route to Bali, Indonesia, with a scheduled stop in Singapore. While flying over Germany, the aircraft developed a technical defect. The decision was made to return to the Netherlands, and the plane landed safely at Schiphol around 23:30.

Shanghai-Bound Flight Faces Water System Issue

KLM flight 895, which departed at 14:33 on Sunday afternoon for Shanghai, China, also encountered issues mid-flight. A defect in the onboard drinking water system prompted the aircraft to turn back while flying over Azerbaijan. It, too, landed safely at Schiphol at approximately 23:30.

Previous Incident in Norway

These incidents follow another disruption on Saturday when a KLM flight from Oslo to Amsterdam was forced to divert to a different Norwegian airport after a loud noise was reported during takeoff. During the unplanned landing, the aircraft veered into grass alongside the runway at low speed. All six crew members and most of the passengers were transported to Amsterdam on Sunday.

Investigation and Passenger Arrangements

KLM has yet to provide detailed explanations for the technical problems or clarify the next steps for affected passengers. These recurring issues are likely to raise concerns about operational reliability, prompting further scrutiny of the airline’s fleet and maintenance protocols.
