Several people died in a terrorist attack on the main building of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in the capital Ankara on Wednesday afternoon, reports Daily Sabah.
According to unconfirmed reports, this may have been carried out by a suicide bomber.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the explosion heard outside the building was a terrorist attack.
There are dead and injured people, confirmed the minister.
He urged the public to rely on statements from official sources on the latest developments.
Turkey’s Anti-Disinformation Center urged the public to watch out for statements from official sources and avoid “baseless” claims.
Security forces, ambulances and firefighters were dispatched to the TAI campus, which employs more than 15,000 people.
The company’s employees, located on the outskirts of Ankara, have been taken to a safe zone.
Kahramankazan, which is 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Ankara,
has a “hostage situation,” while the private NTV said shots were fired after the explosion, which occurred around 4:00 p.m.
Reports said a group of attackers arrived at the complex’s entrance in a taxi during a change of security personnel. At least one of the attackers detonated a bomb, while other attackers managed to enter the compound.
Helicopters were seen flying over Ankara’s Kahramankazan district.
