Israel presented evidence that Hezbollah planned to attack Israel. The attack was planned for October 7, the day on which militants of the radical Palestinian group Hamas invaded Israel a year ago.
“Hezbollah planned to launch its attacks on October 7 from villages in southern Lebanon where they have been stockpiling ammunition and an arsenal for two decades. Hezbollah has dug tunnels under homes in these villages,” Daniel Hagari, a spokesman for the Israeli army, was quoted as saying.
The Israeli military released footage showing them entering a tunnel, as well as a large amount of ammunition they said they found in bunkers and warehouses on Lebanese soil. Tel Aviv has once again declared that it is not waging a war against the Lebanese people, but against Hezbollah. Israel invited the population of 25 Lebanese villages to evacuate.
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, appealed to his compatriots to obey the instructions of the law enforcement agencies and remain united in the upcoming “days of trial.”
“We are in a campaign against the Iranian axis of evil. As I said before, these are days of great achievements, but also of great challenges. Great achievements because we have dealt with Nasrallah, with the top leaders of Hezbollah and with its plans to occupy the Galilee. We are determined to return our compatriots safely to their homes in the north,” said Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel.
According to sources in the US, after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Iran began preparations for a missile attack on Tel Aviv. There is currently no direct confirmation of the information from Tehran.
“We are watching the situation in the Middle East very carefully. The United States is committed to the defense of Israel. We are watching developments very carefully,” said Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State.
According to experts quoted by the BBC, the Iranian attack could be similar to the one in April. Tehran then fired a barrage of rockets into Israeli territory, 99% of which were intercepted.
A difficult night for the people of Lebanon.
In the Israeli border areas, they welcomed the actions of the Israeli army
“I’m sure this ground offensive will bring the residents back here. And that’s much, much needed, that’s the answer. That’s what we want!”
Rockets were exchanged between Israel and Hezbollah throughout the day. Against this background, calls for finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis continue.
