First election results in Austria: The far-right wins the election

Just a few minutes after the polls closed in Vienna, the Ministry of the Interior announced the first estimated results, which put the Austrian Freedom Party in first place, with 29.1 percent, the best result in its history.

The result is 13 percent better than the result in 2019, writes BTA.

The ruling Austrian People’s Party came in second with 26.3 percent, a loss of 11.1 percent. The Austrian Social Democratic Party lost 0.1 percent and recorded its lowest result ever /20.9 percent/.

NEOS is currently in fourth place with 8.8 percent, a plus of 0.7 percent was achieved, the Greens lost 5.3 percent and are in fifth place with 8.6 percent.

So far, the small parties have not crossed the four percent barrier. Since the range of inaccuracy is around 2 percent, it is theoretically possible for the ruling ANP to oust the Freedom Party.

The quick publication of the forecast results obtained by mathematical models as a result of the counted ballots is possible due to the fact that already at 1 p.m. they closed the first sections in small settlements, then at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. – the majority of nearly 10,000 polling stations , and at 5 p.m. the last desks closed.
