Danish police arrested three suspects Wednesday after two explosions near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen. The suspects are Swedes between the ages of 15 and 20, police said.
No one was injured in the explosions on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. The police suspect that the explosions were caused by two hand grenades.
It is not yet known whether the explosions were aimed at the embassy. The police are still investigating, a police spokesman said at a press conference. After the explosions, damage was only caused to a building about 100 meters away from the embassy in the Danish capital.
Two suspects were arrested at Copenhagen Central Station. They were on a train that was supposed to leave for a place near the border with Germany. The other suspect had already been arrested shortly after the explosions elsewhere in Copenhagen.
The police chief would not yet say what exactly the three are suspected of. He did say that two of the suspects will probably be charged with illegal possession of weapons.
In neighboring Sweden, there was also an incident on Tuesday around an Israeli embassy. Shots were heard near the embassy in Stockholm. According to the Danish police, it is too early to say whether there is a connection between the two incidents. The police are investigating.
