After much resistance, the Netherlands will supply mpox vaccines to Africa

The Netherlands is still donating 13,200 vaccines against mpox to areas in Africa that have been affected by the disease. After a motion in the House of Representatives, Minister Fleur Agema (Public Health) agreed to this after much resistance.

Agema gave the order on Wednesday to make the vaccines available, according to the approved motion . “The transfer will take place as soon as possible.”

The vaccines will go to the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, an organisation of the European Commission, which will then ensure that they end up in the right place.

Agema previously resisted when it came to the donations. She wanted to keep the 100,000 mpox vaccines in reserve “in case the Netherlands needs them,” she said.
