Natalie Dormer said this week she will not take part in promotion for the British drama series The Lady after a recently surfaced 2011 email showed Sarah Ferguson calling Jeffrey Epstein her “very best friend.”
Dormer, 43, said in a statement, “When I agreed to take on the role in The Lady, I knew that portraying Sarah Ferguson would require nuance,” Dormer said. “Since the completion of the project, new information has come to light that makes it impossible for me to reconcile my values with Sarah Ferguson’s behavior, which I find inexcusable. For this reason, I will not participate in the promotion of the project.”
The actress said she has donated her entire salary from the project to charity.
The email, from 2011, shows Ferguson, the ex-wife of Britain’s Prince Andrew, calling Epstein her “very best friend.” At the time, Epstein had already been convicted as a sex offender.
A spokesperson for Ferguson said she had sent the email to avoid a lawsuit, the spokesperson said.
This week several charities severed their ties with Ferguson.
The Lady is a British drama series based in part on true events. The series centers on Jane Andrews, who worked for Ferguson before she was convicted of murdering her boyfriend.
The series was shot earlier this year and is expected to be released in late 2025 or early 2026.
