The British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into Ticketmaster following numerous complaints regarding ticket sales for Oasis’ reunion tour. The investigation revealed that Ticketmaster sold standing tickets for the tour at two different prices, with the lower-priced tickets costing nearly 150 pounds (about 170 euros). Once those tickets sold out, prices increased significantly, leaving some customers in the digital queue unaware that they would have to pay as much as 350 pounds for a single ticket.
Additionally, Ticketmaster offered platinum tickets priced at more than 2.5 times the normal ticket price, despite these tickets providing no extra benefits. Fans reported that this pricing structure resulted in ticket prices being much higher than anticipated. The CMA’s investigation concluded that there was no dynamic pricing in place, which typically adjusts ticket prices based on demand.
Ticketmaster’s Response
In response to the investigation, Ticketmaster stated that it is voluntarily cooperating with the CMA and will improve communication regarding ticket prices during the purchasing process. The CMA has indicated that it will take further action if no changes are made by the ticket seller.
