Many Fireworks for Children Fail Safety Inspections Due to Hazards

The ILT tested forty different products categorized as children’s fireworks. The inspection authority has instructed importers to remove and destroy over a third of the tested items from the market due to safety concerns.

During the testing, two types of fountains exploded unexpectedly. Other products failed to ignite properly. “This is dangerous because there is a risk that someone may approach the fireworks to see why they did not go off,” stated the ILT. Additionally, fireworks should not launch too high, as the burning parts could be carried further away by the wind.

There are two categories of consumer fireworks. One of these, the F1 category, is lighter and available for purchase year-round. According to data from VeiligheidNL, nearly half of the injuries associated with this type of fireworks involve children under the age of twelve.

A nationwide fireworks ban is likely to be implemented starting from the New Year of 2026/2027. However, F1 fireworks will still be permitted.
