BMW is recalling 1.2 million cars worldwide, including about 14,000 in the Netherlands, because water can reach the starter motor and, in the worst case, cause a fire, the company said.
BMW said water ingress can lead to overheating and short circuits. The company warned that starting the vehicle may become impossible once water reaches the starter motor.
Recall response
BMW advised owners to park their car outdoors until the starter motor is replaced.
“No incidents are yet known to BMW.”
Owners covered by the recall will be notified through their dealers, BMW said. If some customers cannot be reached that way, the company will send a message through the car’s system.
