While new jobs will be created, a net total of 14,000 positions will be eliminated, according to Beth Galetti from Human Resources on the company website. She references a statement from CEO Andy Jassy in June, who predicted that advancements in AI would lead to increased efficiency.
“It is difficult to predict the exact outcomes, but we anticipate that we will reduce our workforce in the coming years due to intensive AI usage,” Jassy wrote.
It is expected that such changes will continue into next year, indicating that even more jobs may be lost. Sources told Reuters on Monday that Amazon plans to cut 30,000 jobs. Galetti emphasized that Amazon is providing support to those who will be losing their jobs.
On Monday, Amazon announced plans to invest over €1.4 billion in the Netherlands by 2027. The company aims to dethrone Bol, the current market leader, in the Netherlands and Belgium.
