Amazon Allocates 1.4 Billion Euros in the Netherlands to Enhance Delivery Speed

Amazon plans to increase the number of package lockers to enable customers to pick up their purchases more conveniently. Additionally, the company aims to simplify the selling process for vendors on its platform, as reported by Het Financieele Dagblad. Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to assist sellers in crafting effective product descriptions. Furthermore, a portion of the investment will be allocated to AWS, the cloud service of the American firm.

Eva Faict, the manager of Amazon Netherlands, describes the country as a “key growth market” for the company. “With these investments, we can better serve our customers, enhance our services, and further support Dutch entrepreneurs with our technology and expertise.”

Amazon has not disclosed whether these investments will create additional jobs. Currently, the company employs over a thousand individuals in the Netherlands, working in its offices in Amsterdam and The Hague, as well as in logistics centers located in Rozenburg and Almelo.

The company has been operational in the Netherlands since 2020 with Amazon.nl, although customers could previously order from foreign versions of the online store.

With AWS, Amazon holds one-third of the global cloud market, making it the largest player in this sector, ahead of Microsoft and Google. This division is becoming increasingly significant due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).
