Brussels has allocated 500 million euros for energy projects across Africa, according to a recent announcement.
Brussels said the funds will target solar, wind, water and geothermal projects to expand electricity access on the continent.
Officials noted that nearly 600 million people in Africa still do not have access to electricity.
Brussels described the investments as “both a moral imperative and a strategic choice,” saying they will strengthen supply chains and could create up to 38 million “green” jobs by 2030.
Projects are taking place in several countries, including wind and hydroelectric plants in Lesotho.
Brussels said construction of a high-voltage power line in Ivory Coast may be eligible for funding.
