It’s been confirmed that Donny van de Beek, Manchester United’s midfielder will not be able to join Euro 2020 after an injury.
The Netherlands’ coach Frank de Boer will not choose a replacement for Van de Beek yet. The reason behind Van de Beek’s injury remains unknown yet.
As stated from the Dutch Football Association ”Donny van de Beek is not available to play the European Championship with the Netherlands. The Manchester United midfielder is struggling with an injury. As a result, the 19-time international, who last played for the Dutch squad in March, is not fit enough to join for the tournament.”
Denzel Dumfries, PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands right-back said that ”This is a huge blow. As a group we are working towards the tournament and Donny is part of our group. We all really feel for him.”
This is the latest difficulty for Van de Beek, after he moved to Manchester United from Ajax last year. After that, he has had only 4 starting appearances in the Premier League during the last season, and not a score.
On the other hand, the manager of Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly mentioned that Van de Beek is rather unhappy and that he is not succeeding at making a breakthrough at Old Trafford.
“I’ve answered this question so many times and there’s so many examples of players needing a little bit of time, quality players,” said Solskjaer. “We have many examples ourselves and there are other clubs with examples and sometimes it takes time.”
The Netherlands belongs to the Group C in Euro 2020, with Austria, Ukraine and North Macedonia.
