The Netherlands – Train services called off after communications collapse

According to operator NS, on Monday, a collapse in the telecommunications network disarranged the train services in the Netherlands.

Local services along with intercity have been called off until 4:30 p.m due to such technical malfunctions that have rendered signals and points out of service.

However, some trains which are not operated by NS are still working in the north of the Netherlands in Limburg and Brabant, whereas substitution buses have started to work for other directions. Further, NS came out with a statement advising people to postpone their travelings for a while if they can.

According to the network operator ProRail, the issues had to do wth the maintenance network, which made it impossible for them to spread the message to the train drivers.

Also, a representative mentioned that the services were most likely going to be out of service for the entire day. ”If trains all over the country stop running and you have to start up again, it takes a very long time before everything is running normally again.” they further said.

For further information and details on this malfunction, check out NS’s website https://www.ns.nl/
