Chelsea wins Champions League after beating Manchester City

On Saturday, Chelsea won the title of Champions League after beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final.

The one and only goal was scored by Kai Havertz in the first half of the game. That goal alone was enough to get Chelsea to win the Champions League at Porto’s Estadio Dragao, Portugal.

The Champions League final was the first final for Manchester City this season.

Chelsea on the other hand, had won the Champions League in 2012 for the last time. This success is also thanks to Tuchel’s game plan who took charge of Chelsea back in January.

”They (the players) were determined to win this. We wanted to be a stone in their (Manchester City’s) shoe. We encouraged everybody to step up and step out, to be more brave and create dangerous counterattacks.” said Tuchel on an interview for BT Sport.

Although both teams had many chances, Havertz was able to pass the ball into the net a few minutes before half-time.

However, both teams also dealt with injuries during the match. Chelsea’s defender Thiago Silva had an injury in the first half, whereas City’s captain Kevin De Bruyne had to be substituted in the second half.

Being considered as one of the best managers of all time, City’s manager Pep Guardiola, has not been able to win the title of Champions League ever since he left Barcelona back in 2012. He also failed to get through the quarterfinal stage in his first 4 years with City.

Although this is a disappointment for City, the team was still able to finish off the season as champions of the Premier League and League Cup.

Giving all the chances Chelsea had, the score could’ve easily been higher, with Timo Werner loosing 2 great opportunities in the beginning, and Christian Pulisic’s wide shot in the second half.

Chelsea celebrated the title with its fans inside the stadium, but many fans were gathered in London to watch their team win Champions League.
