After some health complications, the oldest Dutch resident Cornelia Boonstra has passed away at the age of 110 on Saturday. On September 2020, she became the Netherlands’ oldest citizen and was living in a care house.

Who is Cornelia Boonstra?

Cornelia Boonstra was born on October 6, 1910 in Herwijnen. She got married in 1939 and then they had 6 children. By the age of 53, Cornelia became a widow after her husband’s death.

Her husband gave her the nickname Kneelie. She was perceived as a woman who dedicated her life to working hard for her family, embracing a natural life and lifestyle. Cornelia did not wear makeup or used any medication throughout her whole life. Additionally, up until the age of 100, she had lived an independent life. After that, Cornelia was placed in a nursing home where she would have the adequate care that she needed at that age.

It is interesting to know that most of the people over the age of 100 in the Netherlands are women, around 2,400 people. Now, after Cornelia’s death, the title of the oldest Dutch resident remains unknown at the moment because she just died on Saturday, May 15 in Arnhem.
