The brutality between people began on Monday, weeks after increasing Palestinian-Israeli tension in East Jerusalem in a holy site and it has now exceeded every limit.
The situation in Gaza Strip has deadly escalated, whereas the UN has a dread of ‘‘full-scale war”. According to Israel, over 1,000 missiles were fired by Palestinian militants which is why Israel has continued with air strikes in the Gaza Strip by demolishing 3 tower blocks and killing Hamas officials.
The consequences have been deadly, with 65 Palestinians and 6 Israeli dead, including even children.
In regards to the situation, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres states that he was ”gravely concerned” with the continuous brutality.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had a phone call with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which Blinken condemned the missile attacks by the Palestinian militants. But, apart from condemning the attacks, he also said that it was Israel’s responsibility to avoid such fatal events.
On the other hand, Netanyahu made it clear that the government would use anything they can in order to protect Israel from enemies. ”This was only the beginning. We will inflict blows on them that they have never dreamed of.” said Netanyahu.
Moreover, Hamas – who leads Gaza, has verified the murdering of its commander in Gaza, along with other ”soldiers”. ”Thousands of leaders and soldiers will follow in their footsteps.” stated Hamas.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry, over 360 people have been badly injured, whereas 65 have been shot for death.
What were the causes of the violence?
The conflict between Israel and Gaza began some weeks after the Israeli and Palestinian police have created tensions in a holy site in East Jerusalem. This holy site is respected both by Muslims and Jews. Additionally, the tensions grew bigger once Jewish settlers threatened Palestinian families to get evicted from their houses.
These attacks are happening at a time which is considered to be highly religious for Muslims because of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid on Thursday.
