AstraZeneca vaccine is equivalent to 80% more protection against mortality

According to a data from Public Health England on AstraZeneca, the vaccine displays how a dose of a shot is equivalent to 80% less risk of death from the virus.

Moreover, the data also showed how the vaccine increases from around 80% after a dose to 97% after 2 doses, with an immunity against mortality from the Pfizer-BioNTech.

According to Public Health England (PHE), the data further became the first one on immunity against death with the vaccine of AstraZeneca.

In contrast to unvaccinated people, those who took a dose of AstraZeneca were estimated to be 55% protected against mortality, whereas a dose of Pfizer meant a 44% protection.

”Combined with the protection vaccines offer against becoming a case in the first place, this is equivalent to approximately 80% protection against mortality in individuals vaccinated with a single dose of either vaccine.” said PHE.

This protection against death from the Pfizer vaccine upgraded to 69% for cases who are vaccinated for their second dose. Altogether, the estimated protection against the virus and the protection against death mean a 97% estimated protection.

UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will decide about the new restrictions on Monday, but the vaccines will also play a huge part in this decision based on their rollout.

Apart from this, another data was conducted by PHE, in which the probability of hospitalization is decreased by 93% once the second dose of Pfizer is taken.
